The Elderly Caregiver Training Course offered by the Qualicare Institute held another in-person session this Saturday, taught by Priscilla Cidade Furlan (MSc), a nurse with 28 years of experience in hospital care, home care, and management.
The class focused on the main pathological conditions affecting the elderly—part of the course's 12-hour Module II curriculum. Participants learned to distinguish between natural aging and conditions requiring medical attention, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, heart disease, stroke, frailty, sarcopenia, and dementia.
The instruction emphasized the caregiver's central role: not to make diagnoses, but to observe warning signs, document changes, and communicate promptly and responsibly with the family and the healthcare team. The class is part of a curriculum combining in-person Saturday sessions, studio-recorded lessons, and technical visits, designed for 40 scholarship recipients from vulnerable backgrounds in the municipality of Colombo, Paraná.
The course is conducted in partnership with the Colombo Department of Social Assistance and funded by Brazil's Ministry of Social Development.
