In the class held on June 27th, students in the Elderly Caregiver course deepened their knowledge of fundamental daily care practices, focusing on two essential topics: the basics of wound dressing and the administration of meals to the elderly.
The first part of the session covered the importance of skin observation—particularly during bathing and changing clothes—as a way to identify early signs of dryness, redness, chafing, and minor injuries. Proper care regarding simple dressings was also addressed, always respecting the caregiver's scope of practice and reinforcing the importance of prevention as a central element of care.
Next, the class examined aspects of elderly nutrition, considering natural aging changes, different food consistencies, warning signs during meals, and the importance of hydration. The session also highlighted the value of mealtime as an experience that encompasses health, affection, autonomy, and respect for the elderly person's dignity.
